Mountain Updates 2/5/25

Boy oh boy oh boy have we been CRANKING at the bowl of late! Congratulations to the Middlebury Class of 2024.5′ who enjoyed a wonderful ski down this past Saturday 2/1. Check out the pictures all over social media, it’s a tear jerker for sure!

In terms of weather this week, it’s a BIG week for snow and a weird one for temperatures. Fingers crossed that the clipper system moving through tonight delivers but we should be expecting 4 inches of fresh fluff to be on the ground tomorrow. Temps warm up to the mid 20s tomorrow before living in the teens through the weekend. And SPEAKING of Super Bowl Sunday (I know it’s sacrilegious, but I do think it’d be cool for Mahomes to go three in a row, I’m making zero friends with that claim), Mother Nature has us penciled in for a date with hopefully another 8-10 inches. Throw a spoon in the freezer, wear some inside out PJs, and brave the drive, because knocking on wood it’ll be deep. If you haven’t been skiing the woods, god help you because everything is skiing really well as we enter prime time Vermont winter, our base is top notch!

In terms of events this week, we have a quieter one but all the classics are coming at you! Friday is the big day with Ski Bums Racing in the afternoon followed by Friday night skin club! Sunday will be the Danforth Cup Slalom on Ross, so look out for that! Next weekend though will be a big one: Middlebury Carnival comes to town with Slalom on Friday and GS on Saturday. For those of us working the mountain, it’s our Super Bowl weekend, and we’re stoked.

That’s all for now, folks! Enjoy the ripping and freshies!

Mountain Updates 1/22/25

Can ya believe it’s almost the end of January? I sure can’t because the skiing has been so good up here that the days are just whizzing by. While it hasn’t been snowing as much, the wind has done some excellent things to the hill (go ski the upper Worth Liftline and the Backside Steeps for proof if you have the chops).

For weather this week, we have a coooooooooold night tonight but this should be the end of the cold snap. It’ll be spring time (not actually but it’ll sure feel like it) the rest of the week with high teens and low 20s. Potential for a little snow Sunday night but otherwise it’ll be dry through the end of January (tear). My weather friends tell me February is the best chance for Nor’Easters, so hopefully we got some dumps inbound. Fingers crossed!

Events wise, we have a big weekend of racing coming up with a live music Après Ski Friday night headlined by Cooie’s Duo before the Thompson USCSA on Allen East Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise, another weekend of great ripping at the bowl so come up and earn your turns, folks!

Howdy folks! Get stoked for another great week at the bowl, it’s been snowing just about every day and conditions are just starting to cusp into midwinter prime. I skied the Hall n’ Oats woods the other day, and while they definitely need a little TLC, there were enough good turns to bring a smile to my face!

For weather this week, Open Snow is calling for a couple of inches this weekend and temperatures cold to start the week but rising to upper 20s and low 30s this Saturday with lots of wind as that small storm rolls in. But who doesn’t love some storm skiing at the bowl?

On the calendar, we’ve got a great blues jam scheduled Wednesday that should be a great way to kick off the week in the Starr Shelter. Friday the bowl hosts DJ Serena Kim sponsored by MIDD FIRE and lots of student activities, so good be a rockin’ night up here. And Saturday is day 1 of the McBrine USCSA race on Allen. Lots going on as we hit MLK Weekend, come hang and dip into the woods!

Conditions Report 12/18

Warm temps this morning made for some wet hero turns out on our beloved Sheehan quad, but as of 7:10 PM on Wednesday evening, the Bowl is ROCKIN’ with two inches of fresh that should keep going overnight to shore up our base for the weekend. Temperatures are forecast to drop going into Christmas week, so the snowmaking team is itching to get back out and give us some more surface to get slidin’ on. Expect some more light snow through the weekend that will shore up natural trails and hopefully provide for better skinning conditions up on Worth. Get those Christmas turns in, folks!
