A little sparkle at the Bowl?

Good morning skiers and riders! As we head into the new year, images of fancy parties, sparkling fireworks, and a big sparkly ball dropping down for the new year drench our minds with what’s to come. Well, a little sparkle goes a long way in Vermont, and here at the Bowl we’ve spent a lot of time sparkling things up over the past summer! Our new Sheehan Quad glistens on the snow whisking skiers and riders up the mountain, particularly under the new night lights we have put in to shine on our slopes every Wednesday – Friday night this season. We’ve introduced our new “Burrows” to upgrade your experience during your visit complete with solo stoves, dedicated space, and unique food and drink options delivered right to your private escape for the day; this “Authentic Vermont” experience creates an intimate unique day on the slopes. Rental information can be found here https://www.middleburysnowbowl.com/the-burrows/

What we’re all really looking for are those sparkly little dendrites born in the sky twinkling all the way down to our slopes, otherwise known as snowflakes. Today, we’ll see that marvel in action with some overnight snow that will continue through the morning until around 1pm. Temperature will be around 31, blustery northwest winds 11 to 20 mph, and about an inch and a half of accumulation could sparkle up our slopes today to bring in the new year. We’re still skiing on 5 lift serviced trails, including our Discovery Zone learning area.

Unfortunately, we are not allowing uphill skinning at this time due to the loss of natural snow on our routes but you are welcome to hike.

Don’t forget to pick up a punchcard when you load the TVT “Bus to the Bowl” to earn rewards throughout the season as you fill them up. All cards turned in to us will be entered into our end-of-season raffle for a free season pass next year to either the Bowl or Rikert! Please note: We will be open Saturday/Sunday 8:30am – 4pm, OPEN 01/01, and CLOSED 01/02 as we head back in to our regular operating schedule. Holiday prices are in effect through 01/01.

CAFE: Open daily at 8:30am, our cafe serves up a fantastic array of housemade foods including breakfast, homemade soups & salads, sandwiches, smash burgers from local Cornwall Cattle Co., Black Bean burgers from VT Bean Crafters, handcut fries, and of course, the famous Snowbowl Chili with an array of local beers to top it all off!

Après-Ski Arrives On The Scene at the Bowl!

Good morning skiers and riders! Après-ski is a French term literally meaning “after ski” and has been a part of ski culture since practically the beginning of time. While this phrase can be associated with a chic slopeside terrace and a glass of champagne, it’s not really our style here at the Bowl; we après Authentic Vermont-style kicking up a crackling fire, some local drinks and snacks, and authentic Vermont musicians! We’ll be getting the party started at 4pm with local musician Jimmy Goodwin who will deliver a soul-stirring musical experience, blending a rich variety of genres that include blues, reggae, rock, funk, bluegrass, and a sprinkle of country.

Temps will be a little cooler with a high near 39 with a west wind 6 to 13 mph, and you guessed it, a little more sprinkling of rain but today there will be some snow mixed in! The skiing’s been great though, so don’t let a few sprinkles fool you, we’re still ripping it all day and through the evening on 6 lift services trails including our completely free Disco Carpet! Now don’t confuse our Disco Carpet in our Discovery Zone learning area with après, this disco dance is strictly limited to the early stages of learning to ski from our PSIA certified instructors, or on your own, but chances are if you sign up with our professional snow sports team, you’ll feel much more confident on your skis sliding in to join us in the lodge for a little après! (full disclosure: the carpet is completely free but there is a slight fee for learning with a pro).

Unfortunately, we are not allowing uphill skinning at this time due to the loss of natural snow on our routes but you are welcome to hike.

Eternal Optimism Lives On at the Bowl!

Good morning skiers and riders! Philosophically speaking, eternal optimists believe that good ultimately prevails over evil, and while we don’t really believe in evil necessarily here at the Bowl, we do believe that this misting rain will convert to the fluffy white stuff we all asked Santa for… and that’s all of us ski folks from the West to the East snuggling up to the bearded chimney raider asking for a gift of snow! We are super happy here at the Bowl to have a team of mountain ops folks keeping us skiing no matter what Mother Nature has dished out so far with 6 lift serviced trails on some pretty darn nice conditions. Yesterday the mist was light, the skiing was super, and we’re expecting more of the same today!

Today will be cloudy with a high near 43 and windy with a southeast wind 8 to 18 mph increasing to 22 to 32 mph.  Chance of precipitation is 70%, but wait, I think we see some white stuff in our forecast starting tomorrow evening. There’s a superstition in our business that we really don’t talk about incoming snow, but being the eternal optimists we are, we just couldn’t help but mention it’s still in our forecast.  Unfortunately, we are not allowing uphill skinning at this time due to the loss of natural snow on our routes but you are welcome to hike.

Hop on the Tri Valley Transit bus to the Bowl!

Good morning skiers and riders! This season marks a whole new program to get you to the Bowl and Rikert – we are happy to announce a collaboration with our friends at Tri Valley Transit to ease getting to our ski areas and get you the best parking in the house – a drop off right at the front door from TVT. While you’re at it, get a punchcard to earn rewards throughout the season as you fill them up and be entered into our end-of-season raffle for a free season pass next year to either the Bowl or Rikert! Find more details here: https://www.middleburysnowbowl.com/ride-to-win/ Our lifts will be turning from 8:30am – 8:45pm today.

Vermonters are a pretty tough crowd, so a little rain in the forecast doesn’t do much to deter us from getting our turns in! Warm weather today will have the temps hovering around 46, a southwest wind 13 to 21 mph, and a 100% chance of rain. The good news is that predictions are for only a tenth to maybe a quarter inch of precipitation, so the skiing should actually be pretty good with nice soft conditions. 6 lift serviced trails will be available including the completely free Disco Carpet in the Discovery Zone learning area. Unfortunately, we continue to not advise uphill skinning at this time due to the loss of natural snow on our routes.

Please note: We will be open today and the remainder of the week for our regular operating hours; open 01/01 and closed 01/02 as we head back in to our regular operating schedule. Holiday prices are in effect through 01/01.

Good morning skiers and riders; a special thanks to all of you who came in Christmas Eve and gave us some tidbits from our ski report for a free future night skiing ticket – thanks for staying in tune! About that overindulgence thing… yeah, I said it, holiday overindulgence is a thing and we know it well here at the Bowl… overindulging in our passion for skiing is how we roll, working hard to create and maintain the best surfaces around (in our humble opinion), and that my friends is the perfect reason for you to come spend the rest of your holiday week with us! So, break out all of that gear you just unwrapped, get some fresh air, get the kids off those new screens, and work off some of that holiday cheer on the slopes at the Bowl to get ready for the new year! Partly sunny skies, southwest wind 15 to 17 mph, a high near 38, and machine groomed surfaces will ensure the perfect turns on that new gear with 6 lift serviced trails including the completely free Disco Carpet in the Discovery Zone learning area. Santa’s In The House!

Merry, Merry skiers and riders! Okay, maybe Santa isn’t really in the house, but it looks like a dusting of about an inch of powder has graced us with its presence as we head into our very own Hallmark holiday! Today, a little more of the white stuff of lore may continue with a 40 percent chance of snow (with a little freezing rain early this morning) predicted for today. Skies will be cloudy, with a high near 31 and Southwest wind 13 to 18 mph.

6 lift serviced trails with 2 lifts will be spinning until 2pm on this Christmas Eve; the Sheehan Quad and the Disco Carpet in the Discovery Zone are sure to calm the anticipation of unwrapping gifts that keep on giving from the Snowbowl tomorrow. We too like to spread some holiday cheer, so for those who faithfully check our conditions and subject themselves to some of the finest snow reporting anywhere, the first 20 guests to mention something out of this report at the ticket window (in person) will get a free ticket for a future evening at the Bowl for night skiing! We should also mention that while uphill skinning is really cool and keeps the extra holiday pounds at bay, we still don’t advise skinning at the Bowl right now due to the recent loss of natural snow on our routes.

Please note: The Snowbowl will close today at 2:00pm and will be closed tomorrow for Christmas Day. We will be open on the 26th from 9am – 4pm.

We have your last minute shopping covered, and you get some turns in!

Good morning skiers and riders! Unlike the Griswold’s entering the forest for their Christmas tree without any tools, the Snowbowl has all of the tools you need for your last minute holiday shopping and you can get some turns in while doing it! Snow Sampler Cards that give you 3 days at the Bowl and 2 days at Rikert Outdoor Center for fat biking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing; a Snow Share Card that allows anyone you love four days at the Bowl without blackouts, or a pretty incredible line up of skis, hats, gloves, or Snowbowl outerwear from our Ski Shop; who else has you covered with all of the tools you need to put gifts under the tree?! So instead of worrying about Uncle Lewis burning down that hard earned Christmas tree with his cigar, get some easy turns in at the Bowl and give the gift that every skier in your family is truly looking for; a gift that keeps on giving from the Middlebury Snowbowl!

With some pretty incredible efforts from our Mountain Ops Team, Kelton and Lower Kelton will reopen today under partly mostly cloudy skies and a high near 29 with a southwest wind 18 to 20 mph. 6 lift serviced trails with 2 lifts getting you there. Lifts will turn for our normal weekend hours with the Sheehan Quad from 8:30am – 4pm and the Disco Carpet from 10am – 3pm. Don’t forget, the Discovery Zone is free, yup, completely free(!) and features our new Discovery Trail. Uphill skinning is still not advised at this time due to the loss of natural snow on our routes.

Please note: The Snowbowl will close at 2:00pm Sunday, Christmas Eve and will be closed on Monday, Christmas Day.

Take a break from the holiday before it gets started!

Good morning skiers and riders! We pride ourselves in providing holiday cheer every day of the ski season, but particularly around the holidays when our crews are welcoming family and friends to their own homes and to the mountain. Today, you too can join us for some holiday cheer by getting some turns in with us before your locked away wrapping presents, eating the feast for the ages, and wearing those ugly sweaters around the fire with your snifter in hand! To top it all off, if you join us for night skiing tonight, you just might get a glimpse of a sleigh with a few reindeer streaking through our Vermont sky on it’s way to get loaded up for the special day! Our lifts will be turning from 9am – 8:45pm tonight before we start settling in for our own holiday weekend.

Scattered flurries early this morning then beautiful sunny skies this afternoon with a high near 20. North winds today 10 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph.
