Serena Kim, a stalwart in the music and publishing industry, first made her mark as one of New York City’s premier female hip-hop DJs in the vibrant 1990s scene. Her illustrious career includes a tenure as features editor at the acclaimed music publication Vibe, alongside notable contributions to Smithsonian, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and more. Serena’s expertise didn’t stop at journalism; she shaped the social media voice for iTunes and crafted new product presentations for Samsung Mobile executives.
Today, Serena enriches the Middlebury, Vermont community with her diverse talents. Alongside her husband Matthew Robinson, she co-owns and markets the Swift House Inn, a cherished boutique hotel and restaurant. Serena’s passion for music remains undimmed as she continues to DJ across Addison County, bringing her unique blend of beats to the local scene. Additionally, her love for cultivation shines through her microgreens farming, and she shares her culinary heritage by teaching Vermonters to make kimchi. As a member of the editorial board for the MNFF and Zig Zag Lit Mag and a current master’s student at the Bread Loaf School of English, Serena’s influence and contributions are widespread.
