Now that I have registered – what now?

Yay! Welcome you to the Middlebury Snowbowl Snow School. We are so excited you have decided to earn your PE credit with us.

Once J-Term registration closes and upon completion of your registration requirements, you will receive an email with instructions regarding lesson attendance, picking up your equipment and how to sign up for your 5 lesson times. Stay tuned…

What to wear?

You will be outside for the entire lesson. Please dress warmly. Cotton and Jean fabric is very, very cold and not advised.

Windproof clothing is best • Warm non-cotton base layers • Warm sweater • Long underwear • Windproof / Insulated snow pants and jacket are great • Windproof insulated gloves or mittens • Neck warmer • Helmet (helmets can be rented at the rental shop, tell them you are attending a J-term lesson) • Thin wool socks are best and give you the best fit in the boot.

Need to pick up Equipment?

The Snowbowl rental shop will have a pop-up shop on campus during November and you will be able to pick up equipment there before you head off on break. That way you are all set to begin your lessons once you return back to campus.

How do I sign up for my lesson times?

We will be sending you a link to a google sheet on which you can sign up for your lessons. You can sign up for five lessons. If you sign up for more than five lessons on the sheet we will keep the first five scheduled lessons and remove the rest.

You will be able to edit your entry on the lesson sign up sheet until 11am the day before your scheduled lesson. Please keep this information current. We rely on your request to schedule the correct number of instructors for your lessons.

Why do I need to check in prior to each lesson?

Just like taking classes on campus, your attendance is required to receive your PE credit. Not checking in could result in you not receiving your PE credit. Please come and check in at the Snow School desk with one of our staff for each lesson. If we do not have record of your attendance you may not be able to receive your credit.

What if I cannot attend the lesson?

You have until 11AM the day before to add or remove your name from the sign up sheet. After 11AM the sheet will be set to “view only”.

In the event that you need to cancel your lesson time after 11AM all further communication must be received by 4pm the day before the lesson.

You can call (802-443-7605) or email (sbsc@middlebury.edu) the snow school before 4 PM the day before the lesson. Please note that as we also serve the general public in addition to the college community it is essential for you to clearly state your name, that you are a J-term student, and leave us a phone number for us to call you back. Any notification received after 4PM the day before the lesson may result in a “no-show”.

Sometimes there are circumstances beyond your control, should this happen then please reach out to the Dean of Students or your Dr and have them send us a letter to excuse you.

Skipping a lesson you have signed up for?

We base the number of instructors on the number of students attending lessons for each day. Choosing to be a “no-show” for a lesson will results in you forfeiting your lesson and you will be listed as a “no-show”. To receive PE credit, you must attend four out of five lessons. Any further “no-shows” will disqualify you from the program and from receiving PE Credit and you will be charged a fine of $25 per missed class.

How can I get to the Snowbowl without a car?

No car? No worries. Tri-Valley Transit shuttle bus traveling right to the Snowbowl which leaves and returns to campus from the ADK Circle all of J-Term. Click here for the Tri-Valley Transit bus schedules and choose the Snowbowl Shuttle.

The Snowbowl is located about 13 miles to the east of the campus in the Town of Hancock. Please allow sufficient time to get to the Snowbowl.

How will I receive my PE Credit?

Once you have completed four out of five lessons the Snow School will notify the PE department that you are eligible to receive credit.
