Middlebury Snowbowl Illuminates the Night with Inaugural Skiing Event12/15/23

Middlebury, VT – A new chapter in winter sports unfolded at Middlebury Snowbowl this past weekend as the ski area launched its first-ever night skiing event, a spectacle of lights, music, and community spirit. The evening kicked off with an energizing performance by Lowell Thompson and friends, whose Tom Petty-inspired rock and Americana tunes set a vibrant tone for the night.

As anticipation reached its peak, Ski Areas Manager Michael Hussey invited guests to gather near the base of the new Sheehan Quad. The air buzzed with excitement, culminating in a stunning fireworks display that lit up the night sky. The climax was nothing short of magical, as the slopes’ lights turned on, unveiling the beloved runs in a new, enchanting light. The crowd’s cheers echoed through the mountains, marking the start of a memorable night.

The Sheehan Quad lift hummed to life, and skiers, beaming with excitement and camaraderie, took to the slopes in an orderly yet enthusiastic procession. The runs, familiar by day, transformed into an enchanting nocturnal playground, weaving a new narrative in the Snowbowl’s storied history.

Off the slopes, the lodge buzzed with energy, thanks to the Neon Ramblers a project from members of The Grift. Their unique take on transforming classic ’80s pop hits into bluegrass favorites was a hit. The lodge transformed into a lively venue, with people of all ages singing, tapping their feet, and at times packing the dance floor in joyous celebration.

Culinary delights were a smash success, with Middlebury College Dining team members, led by Karen and Lexi, serving up mouth-watering dishes. The buffalo chicken quickly became a crowd favorite, while this writer can personally attest to the unparalleled quality of the burgers, arguably the best served at the Bowl in 24 years.

The success of the night was palpable, with many attendees inquiring about future events. In response, the Snowbowl team is excited to announce that night skiing will now be a regular feature every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. And we will be adding more “major” events like this past Friday night in the future.

In closing, heartfelt thanks are extended to everyone who attended as well as all of the the staff, supporters, and all the unsung heroes who went above and beyond to make this event possible. The future indeed looks bright at Middlebury Snowbowl, where the community’s spirit shines as luminously as the newly lit slopes.
